Boreas

Boreas is a god of wind, a god of northerly storm wind. He is the one who manage the northerly wind and he is a wind himself. He is one of sons of god of night sky and goddess of sunrise. According to mythology there is a country of Boreas and that country is guarder by the highest mountains. Some specialists state that ancient name for Dnieper was taken after name of this god.
So, ancient name for modern Dnieper is Boreas-fen that is translated as "northerly current". A number of cities were also called after the name of this god. Towns that are situated not far from the country of Boreas, the country that is surrounded with mountains. One way or another, there still is a northerly wind that is called as Boreas. It is possible that term "Aurora borealis" is also deviant from his name.
He was a god common for mythology of a number of cultures. This god was depicted as a strong man with huge black wings, long hair and beard. There also were some descriptions for his temper. So, Boreas considered as a god with tough temper. He was stern, cruel and knew now sympathy for people. a number of heroes were frozen to death with northerly wind of Boreas.
He was also a god who could be of great help for sailors who lost their way. He was able to fill their sails with wind and direct them in the right way. He wasn't the only son of his parents; there were other children who were gods of other winds. Though, Boreas is the best known god among them. His image was an image that frightened people with its severity, and wind he managed with was the most dangerous and stormy.
