Just like Zeus Poseidon is a son of Kronos and Rea. According to one sources he was the second son of Kronos. But, there are also informational sources according to which Poseidon is a first son of Kronos.

According to Greek mythology it was Kronos and his wife those who were first settlers of Olympus. Actually, there were some other gods before them, though Kronos drove the away and proclaimed that place as his home. Soon his wife born him children and he received a foreseeing that one of his sons will drive him away the Olympus. That son was Zeus, the only baby Kronos haven't eaten. After Zeus grew up, he drive his father away the Olympus.

Since that day Olympus become a home for all gods. According to belief of ancient Greeks there were a number of castles in the Olympus. Those castles were built for gods and decorated for the by Hephaestus. Those were the most beautiful castles people could ever imagine. And the gates of Olympus were guarder by virgin goodness of time. So, no one except gods could get to Olympus.

Sometimes gods left their home in order to visit people and to find out more about their lives. They also were leaving Olympus when they wanted to provide someone with their protection or help. In most cases it was help and protection provided for heroes and half-gods.
